Henderson Engineers provided design services for this new 60,000 SF community center near the existing city hall at the intersection of Holmes and NE 70th Street. The project was funded by a publicly-approved bond purchasing process with a construction cost of $15 million. The city formed a strategic partnership with the North Kansas City School District and the developer, Gale Communities, in the creation of the new facility. The building also serves as an emergency shelter. The city applied for an energy grant from the Department of Natural Resources, with Henderson’s assistance, and has proven an annual energy savings greater than $94,000; the grant application requested more than $1 million of loan due to this savings.
