In 2021, Henderson officially became an employee-owned or ESOP company, making employees beneficial owners of stock in Henderson Companies (the parent company of Henderson Engineers and Henderson Building Solutions). Henderson moved to an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) to preserve our people-first culture by placing the future success of the company into the hands of employees. Being part of an ESOP means every employee can directly impact the profitability and growth of the company along with their own retirement savings. When Henderson does well, so do our employees -- without investing any of their own funds!

When you meet us, the difference is obvious and our casual dress code is just the start. We’re as passionate about people as we are about designing world-class buildings. We recognize engineers aren’t one-size-fits-all, which is why we’ve intentionally created an inclusive culture where all employees can do their best work. We also offer paid parental leave and paid volunteer time to help our people succeed and contribute in their communities too.

Our founder Fran Henderson opened up shop in Kansas City in 1970… and we haven’t slowed down since. Our employee-first culture and client-centric mentality have helped us attract the best people, win industry accolades, and build client relationships that last for decades. From humble beginnings to iconic projects coast-to-coast, we’ve spent more than half a century changing the industry and we’re just getting started… As we look forward to our next 50 years, we plan to remain focused on what got us to this point: our people, our partnerships, and our passion for mixing rules with innovation.
