Gameday doesn't start on the field. It starts with athlete preparation and whole-person health.
When it came time to renovate, optimize, and modernize their athlete experience, Virginia Tech University turned to Henderson Engineers. This renovation focused on modernizing the football locker room, existing hydrotherapy suite, restroom, and shower areas within the Jamerson Athletic Facility. A key priority for the university was enhancing the lighting design to maximize flexibility and support optimal use by athletes.
Working within a highly constrained space with numerous existing systems that were to remain in place, Henderson Engineers led the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design for the 4,200 square feet project.
Leading with strong project management and project coordination skills, the Henderson team was able to thoroughly document existing conditions and carefully integrate new systems. This led to a successful preservation of ceiling heights and maintaining the overall aesthetic of the facility. During the exploratory phase, Henderson also identified underlying issues contributing to poor air quality in areas adjacent to the hydrotherapy suite. These issues were resolved through the new design, improving the overall environment for facility users and student athletes.
