‘Gateway of the great southwest’, Yuma, Arizona is known for it’s sunny winter weather and temperate climate. With a growing population of retirees, the community needed a place where veterans and their spouses can age gracefully and receive the care they need.

Brought on board to assist in the efforts, Henderson Engineers provided building systems designs for the 80-bed skilled nursing facility home which consists of five separate 12-bed long-term care units and a 20-bed memory care unit. Each unit took into consideration ways for residents to experience the outdoors, form connections to other residents, and personalize their own living spaces. Activity space and a large cafeteria/kitchen were the main points of focus in the design. LEED Silver certification is currently being reviewed and is expected to be received.

Design and construction of the facility followed all aspects of the VA’s Community Living Center Design Guide. This is truly a place that benefits the community by providing some of our country’s most deserving men and women a safe, comfortable, and unique place to call home.
