Henderson Engineers partnered with Akin Gump to transform the landmark Union Tower into a new headquarters for this law firm — located inside The Union’s 22-story Class AA tower.

Seeking to bring a fresh perspective to workplace design through a wholly unique approach to the site, the new office comprises office, meeting, event spaces, and world-class employee amenities.

Given the nature of the firm and the history of the neighborhood, the project demanded considerable thought in how to support each space and creatively blend systems with high-end, contemporary aesthetics.

Pipes and lines were integrated to minimize visibility. An internal staircase connects all three floors to further streamline employee interaction. And each floor addresses LEED requirements, requiring complete coordination of plumbing, for several restrooms, and smart interior lighting controls supporting 90 percent of occupant spaces.

Today, after 75 years of growth, this location now serves as the heart of operations for more than 900 lawyers, advisors, and support staff located in offices throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
