Student Union - Fort Lewis College

The Student Union is an integral part of the educational mission of Fort Lewis College. It’s the community center of the college that provides high-quality facilities and services that are both student oriented and environmentally focused. The Student Union strives to provide resourceful, courteous, and attentive services in partnership with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests, seeking to enhance the college experience by ensuring opportunities for participation and involvement in a diverse array of organizations, programs, and activities.

This LEED Gold certified project included the design of an administration/operations area, building services, food service and dining, student lounges, leadership center, meeting rooms, multipurpose space, bookstore, post office/retail, student activities, and venues.

Other sustainable design elements include passive solar heating, indirect evaporative cooling, efficient hot water and chilled water hydronic central plant with plate and frame heat exchangers, roof mounted solar thermal water heating system and photovoltaic system, efficient lighting systems (10% better than ASHRAE baseline minimum), daylight harvesting controls, and variable speed kitchen exhaust fan control systems.
