As South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) embarks on its largest expansion to date, Team Henderson works as a trusted partner in bringing this next chapter of care to life, designing thoughtful, future-ready infrastructure. To meet the needs of the continuously evolving community, the initial phase of the campus modernization will include a new women and infants tower, a trauma center, an emergency department and relocation of the main entrance. Henderson is helping throughout the design process to weigh complex decisions, offer insight about system performance efficiency, manage long-term cost, and ensure patient care remains the center of every conversation.
From high-efficiency HVAC systems with advanced filtration and steam humidification, to producing designs that meet strict environmental safety standards in more sensitive areas, such as the behavioral health units, our critical building systems designs prioritize patient safety. This project gave Henderson the opportunity to produce acoustic designs aimed to reduce ambient noise in labor and delivery suites or patient recovery rooms, reinforcing our commitment to patient comfort. We also incorporated air-cooled chillers to reduce water use and improve sustainability, a vital role in long-term operational efficiency. These building systems lay the groundwork for future vertical growth by integrating capped risers and dedicated equipment pads, giving SGMC potential to expand without suspending operations.
We approach every space – from the NICU to the emergency department – with care and intention, creating high-performing systems that support healing environments. The result is a hospital that’s not only state-of-the-art but also thoughtfully designed to grow with the needs of the community it serves.
