Millcreek Learning Center - Olathe Public Schools USD 233

The Millcreek Learning Center is an institution that offers alternative education programs to more than 900 students in the Olathe school district each year. The building started out as a high school in 1927, transitioned into a middle school in 1975, and has served as a space for students to learn and excel for more than 90 years. The newest renovation of the structure provides students with a uniquely organized learning environment to carry on the building’s time-honored tradition. A longtime partner to the district, Henderson Engineers designed the renovation to include the addition of an atrium, a conference center, and the relocation of the building’s entrance to create better flow throughout. The improvements to the learning center will work to meet the diverse needs of each student and provide them with opportunities for academic success.

This two-phase renovation consisted of new water, gas, and electrical service entrances throughout the existing building and new addition. The 1961 Annex building also received new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems with a dedicated outside air unit for the modular education spaces while the larger volume auditorium and gymnasium were served by packaged rooftop units. Dedicated to the center’s mission of inspiring possibilities for all students, our team focused on designing our systems for flexible teaching spaces throughout the building to support various approaches to learning. Along with the Annex's community development spaces, the renovations to the Millcreek Learning Center allow the alternative education programs of Olathe to come together under one roof to create an effective and efficient environment for students and staff.
