Lawrence High School - Lawrence Public Schools USD 497 Lawrence High School - Lawrence Public Schools USD 497

As part of the last $92.5 million bond projects, Lawrence Public Schools USD 497 looked to Henderson Engineers to complete the systems design at nine schools, including Lawrence High School, and one college and career center. These projects improved school facilities, enhanced technology district wide, and expanded career and technical education opportunities for students.

The modernization and additions to Lawrence High School consisted of seven phases of construction over three years while the school was occupied. The renovations addressed classroom size, building circulation, and updated spaces and systems that had been in place for 60 years. Nearly all classrooms throughout the high school were renovated to accommodate additional students.

The new Innovation Corridor, which features classrooms focusing on STEAM, includes large glass windows that look out to the learning courtyards. The fine arts renovation included the auditorium stage, orchestra room, rehearsal spaces, and storage areas. Locker rooms, and administrative areas were updated, and the library and the media center were modernized. Minor renovations to auxiliary gym included eliminating bleachers at the floor level with new permanent bleachers in the mezzanine and the addition of drop-down volleyball nets. After years of planning, Lawrence High School can comfortably serve many more generations of high school students in a modern and beautiful space.
