Henderson Plumbing Expert Authors Article on the Risks of Grandfathering

“Grandfathering” within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry refers to when existing buildings are exempted from complying with current building codes even when undergoing renovation. While beneficial in instances such as historic preservation, grandfathering can come at the expense of safety, potentially jeopardizing people’s well-being. Francisco DeHoyos, plumbing technical director at Henderson Engineers and an industry veteran since 1989, penned a recent article on this subject for ASPE, the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. The piece breaks down the history of grandfathering and provides expert advice on why engineers should approach the concept with caution to deliver the safest possible projects for clients.
