Positive Displacement Ventilation: Golden 1 Center

COURSE OVERVIEW

Though not a new technology or trend, positive displacement ventilation (PDV) has seen limited use in sports and venue spaces. Yet with increased requirements from leagues and energy codes, coupled with the need to increase fan experience, the benefits of PDV make it a useful design strategy in many instances. This presentation is divided into three parts: 1. Defining PDV: A business and design case 2. A case study of Sacramento Kings (Golden 1 Center) 3. Workshop: Architects and engineers developing strategies to make PDV more beneficial and cost effective.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Identify benefits of PDV to energy efficiency.

  2. Understand benefits of PDV to thermal comfort and fan experience.

  3. Identify benefits of PDV to air quality.

  4. Understand NBA requirements for pre—cool and how they can compete with fan comfort.
