COURSE OVERVIEW

The purpose of this course is to introduce design professionals to various aspects of fire protection engineering for retail buildings. The course is an overview of fire sprinkler and fire alarm design, and attempts to dispel popular myths about fire protection.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Understand fire sprinkler construction (identify different types of sprinklers).
  2. Understand fire sprinkler design basics for a retail building.
  3. Understand how popular culture has perpetuated myths about fire protection, and understand the truth that belies these myths.
  4. Understand the relationship between fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler systems.
