Science Building - Central Arizona College Science Building - Central Arizona College

Central Arizona College (CAC) is a public community college that values the power of innovation and continuous improvement. When CAC needed two ground-up facilities on their Signal Peak Campus, they brought on Henderson Engineers to provide the building systems designs for their new student union and the future home of their science program.

Occupying a single story, 40,600 SF facility, the science program building provides an efficient and functional 21st century learning space that engages students. Throughout the construction process, our team re-powered telescopes located on the adjacent mountain that were being powered by the existing science building. The storm piping system for the building was designed to celebrate the water by showcasing its flow as part of the architectural design.

With nine teaching labs and associated prep spaces, a maker space/STEM classroom with 3D printers and robotics, wet and dry labs, support spaces, and gathering areas for students, there is no shortage of learning and collaboration opportunities for those who walk the building’s halls.

Through a proactive, knowledgeable, and collaborative approach, the design team was able to reduce issues that commonly arise during construction administration and ultimately complete the project on time and within budget.
