In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Henderson Engineers sent a team of five engineers to conduct a visual walk-through and document the damage to the Louisiana Superdome. With the goal of providing a comprehensive evaluation of necessary repairs to get the facility up and running, the team assembled site information for all the major building systems.
Henderson was retained to provide design and construction administration services for the reinstallation of the voice and data communications structured cabling system and infrastructure. The team created predictive “heat” maps to ensure adequate Wi-Fi coverage of the concourse and other areas. The main telephone switch and server room were relocated from the ground level to an upper level to avoid any future storm water damage. Because of this relocation and the upgrade from a traditional digital telephone system to a voice over IP system, a completely new structured cable system was designed and installed.
As part of the restoration, Henderson also conducted a visual inspection of security components, and developed a scope of work that was assigned to a local contractor who had previous experience with the Superdome System.
In 2009, following the Katrina restoration project, the Superdome began another renovation project. For this project, Henderson was again engaged to provide design and construction administration for the voice and data communications structured cabling system and infrastructure. As part of this renovation, Henderson also provided security system design services.
