Henderson Engineers Plumbing Technical Leader Karl Caouette was recently elected the vice president for technical officer position with the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) chapter in Los Angeles. The announcement was made to more than 90 people in attendance at a chapter meeting, including William Smith, executive director and CEO of ASPE and Ed Salzberg, the second founding member of ASPE.

Caouette’s duties will include attending monthly meetings and arranging technical speakers for the monthly technical sessions. In addition to coordinating and setting up yearly product shows for membership, Caouette will be tasked with updating fellow members on new and upcoming technologies and helping them comply with regulations like ASHRAE 188.

“Being part of this organization is important to me both professionally and personally,” said Caouette. “It allows me to help teach young engineers and designers about plumbing fundamentals so they are prepared for the CPD (Certified Plumbing Design) exam, which is really rewarding. I enjoy keeping others in the plumbing industry updated on the latest standards, code regulations, and new technologies like booster pumps. I also love being able to introduce other industry professionals to Henderson – who we are and what we do as a firm. I am proud to represent my company in this role.”

The selection to the ASPE-LA board is not the first for Caouette. He previously served for the board of governors as VP of legislative (2006-07) and chapter treasurer (2008-10). The ASPE-LA chapter is the founding chapter of the organization and was started in 1965. The founding father of ASPE, Donald Dickerson, and his daughter, April Trafton, have served as mentors to Caouette during his career.
