Building Systems Space Planning for Non-Engineers

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course focuses on best practices and key considerations architects and interior designers should keep in mind when planning space for building systems. After this course, participants will be able to effectively allocate adequate space in initial plans, and be better equipped for discussions with the rest of the design team. The main topics covered will be a general overview of system components, clearance and space constraints for these systems. This presentation will review five different system categories: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Technology (MEPFT).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Identify components of MEPFT building systems within buildings and in plans.
2. Determine what MEPFT building systems are required for different space types.
3. Discuss requirements of MEPFT building systems with the design team.
4. Allocate sufficient space for MEPFT building systems and pathways.
