Research & Testing Laboratory – Texas Instruments
The new Texas Instruments’ Research & Testing Laboratory houses 25,000 SF of labs for state-of-the-art research and development and a multitude of features for occupant health and wellness including a 5,000 SF fitness center, recreational equipment, a dividable multi-purpose dining room, green spaces, and general office and meeting spaces.
Henderson Engineers designed mechanical and electrical systems for high reliability and maintenance ease to support the site while still being flexible to plan for future growth. Lab spaces needed to support fume hoods and equipment to handle liquid nitrogen and compressed air used for testing.
Working through design, construction, and occupancy phases of the project, Henderson Building Solutions provided LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning services, which included the specialty systems that support the labs. We also helped address lab pressurization issues.
Another challenge was the critical nature of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Any downtime from the central plant could lead to failed testing. We worked with the owner’s facilities group and the contractors to make sure failure rotations were timed properly and trained the owner’s staff on the system's operation.
