At Douglas County School District's Legacy Campus mechanical equipment had reached an end of its useful life, including boilers, pumps, and the cooling tower. To improve the reliability of the facility's heating, cooling, and domestic hot water systems, Henderson Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design needed for crucial improvements.
With no as-built drawings available for the main mechanical room, our team conducted detailed site investigations to accurately document existing conditions and develop a coordinated design that helped limit RFIs and change orders during construction.
We separated the domestic hot water system from the building’s boiler loop, providing a dedicated system that better serves the facility’s needs while allowing boiler temperatures to be adjusted without impacting domestic hot water. We also specified a fiber-reinforced polymer cooling tower to align with district standards and reduce structural impacts.
To keep the project on schedule despite equipment lead times, our team issued an early procurement package and worked closely with the contractor to confirm construction procedures and equipment pathways were practical for installation.
