Law Enforcement Center – Shelby County

Facing flooding concerns, limited space, and outdated infrastructure at its existing jail, Shelby County invested in a new Law Enforcement Center designed to better serve staff, inmates, and the surrounding community for decades to come. The new facility brings the county’s jail, Sheriff’s Office, and dispatch operations together under one roof, with a 30-bed jail, updated inmate housing, visitation areas, holding cells, a padded room for individuals experiencing mental health crises, and improved accessibility.
Budget and space were two of the biggest challenges throughout the project, making close collaboration especially important. Henderson Engineers worked alongside the owner and design team through an extensive value engineering effort to simplify the design and find efficiencies while keeping the project’s most important goals intact while balancing costs. When inadequate water pressure created another challenge, our team coordinated with the county fire department to find a solution. The result is a safer, more functional environment for staff and inmates and a modern correctional and law enforcement facility that can serve the Shelby County community for years to come.
