Whole Foods Market One Wall Street

Originally constructed in 1932, One Wall Street is a 50-story high-rise Art Deco building in New York City’s Financial District (FiDi) and the former home of Irving Trust. Considered one of the largest office-to-residential conversions in the city’s history, the building is now home to 566-units above and a 42,000 SF Whole Foods on the ground floor.

The highly anticipated Whole Foods One Wall Street opened in January 2023. Henderson Engineers worked with the landlord and design team for more than seven years to bring this organic grocery store to life. The flagship location spans five floors and features a full-service seafood counter, full-service meat counter, food hall with hot and cold food bars, full-service coffee bar, bakery, and more than 1,000 local, curated items. Henderson designed the building systems to conform with the building’s historic features and architecture while meeting the space program goals. Throughout the space, a few select ornamental items were repurposed and refurbished including an original brass mailbox and elevator doors. As a 1930’s high-rise, another major challenge was utilizing steam and condenser water for HVAC and refrigeration.
