Henderson’s $1.5B MCI Single Terminal Project Earns 2024 Project of the Year Award

Airport Business Magazine

Airport Business Magazine, a leading aviation trade publication, has awarded the new single terminal at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) with a 2024 Project of the Year Award in recognition of “exceptional innovation in airport improvement.” Henderson Engineers was the lead engineer for the groundbreaking $1.5 billion project, which opened in February 2023 and is the largest ever infrastructure project in Kansas City, Missouri.

Highlights of the 1.1-million-square-foot facility include a Henderson-engineered all-electric system to power the building’s operations, numerous accessible and inclusive features such as a quiet room for neurodivergent travelers and a one-of-a-kind simulation room, and the largest public art project in Kansas City history.
