Workplace Wellness at Henderson

What comes to mind when you think of workplace wellness? An on-site gym? Healthy snacks in the breakroom? Robust health insurance coverage? At Henderson Engineers, we believe workplace wellness isn’t just about health – it’s an approach that encompasses all aspects of employee well-being. I’d like to showcase one of those efforts our HR team has instituted to encourage workplace wellness.

I joined Henderson as Chief People Officer this past summer to help guide our strategic approach to employee success and to spearhead company culture initiatives. I took on this role as Henderson, like many other businesses, was navigating how to approach the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic along with our nation’s racial reckoning and widespread civil unrest. While my time here has been brief, I’m proud to be part of an organization that was already doing – and continues to do – the right things for our employees including our diversity and inclusion programs. This enables us to be more adaptive and resilient, and to build trust with our employees as we journey through the unknown together.

At the beginning of the pandemic Henderson’s Learning and Development (L&D) team, Angie Grant (director of talent acquisition and development) and Janelle Whisler (talent development specialist), launched a program to provide resources for employees to stay connected and healthy as our entire company transitioned to an unchartered remote work environment. What started as a temporary resource has kept the Henderson culture strong and employees engaged throughout the last 17 months, even after we implemented a hybrid in-office and remote working model. While our firm has always provided employees with career-specific training, our L&D team took the lead on these people-specific resources to ensure we were supporting employee well-being as much as possible.

These resources have been so helpful to us at Henderson that we’ve decided to also begin sharing them externally to help others across the industry thrive. Over the coming months, Henderson’s L&D team will share our Workplace Wellness series with tips for personal development on topics including Collaboration, Employee Engagement, Goal Writing, Situational Awareness, and more.

At Henderson, our commitment is to always put people first. We believe having access to personal and professional development resources empowers us to take control of our own workplace wellness, therefore creating a healthier and more balanced work environment – no matter where your office is. Stay tuned for our first Workplace Wellness series post and reach out with any questions.
