Central Arizona College (CAC) is a public community college that values the power of innovation and continuous improvement. When CAC needed two ground-up facilities on their Signal Peak Campus, they brought on Henderson Engineers to provide the building systems designs for their new student union and the future home of their science program.

Student life and student engagement are top priorities for CAC, which is why they wanted to provide a centralized location on campus that could serve as an easily accessible home-base for students, athletes, and faculty alike. Within the two-story, 32,250 SF student union, you can find lounge areas, meeting rooms, and public safety offices as well as the campus bookstore, a full-services kitchen, café, and dining hall, and an outdoor stage that opens to a green space.

With an overall vision of a clean aesthetic throughout the union, our team was tasked with designing systems that allowed for just that. In the dining hall, the HVAC design utilizes side-wall air diffusers, keeping the ceilings visually clean. The diffusers that were selected allowed the design to be laid out in a pattern that complemented the architectural design of the space.

Through a proactive, knowledgeable, and collaborative approach, the design team was able to reduce issues that commonly arise during construction administration and ultimately complete the project on time and within budget.
