St. Joseph Mercy Health System St. Joseph Mercy Health System

A medical system with proven quality and compassion, St. Joseph Mercy Health System cares about the communities they serve. Founded in 1874 by the sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, the health system is comprised of more than 1,700 beds and employs more than 14,000 individuals, including 2,700+ physicians.

As a partner to this organization for more than a decade, Henderson Engineers has assisted the organization on multiple projects across their campuses. One of the most notable was a major central plant renovation and addition at their largest hospital, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor. The original plant, housing 2,500 tons of absorption chillers, was expensive to operate, elevated maintenance costs, and didn’t adequately cool critical areas of the hospital. Henderson replaced it with a high-efficiency, 6,000 ton plant designed to accommodate a fifth 1,500 ton chiller in the future.

Over the years, St. Joseph has called on Henderson for multiple projects including:
Women’s Health Center
Emergency Room Expansion & Renovation Neonatal ICU
Laboratory Addition
Angiography Interventional Radiology (Cath labs, Angio, Nuc Med, CT,)
Kitchen Renovation
Emergency Generator Replacements, Clinical Services & Surgery Addition, and 18 Operating Rooms
10 Megawatt Emergency Generator Installation
Pre & Post Op & New CSR
Patient Towers
Anatomy Lab

St. Joseph is always working to be better, encouraging people to be remarkable. We get that. At Henderson we believe remarkable people make a difference. That's why work with them – and employ them.
