Seeing a need to consolidate multiple medical care facilities into one location for ease of use and access, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Air Force Medical Services Agency set out to construct a new replacement clinic at Lackland AFB and the 559th medical group: Reid Health Services Center. The new facility includes 19 different departments and serves more than 80,000 patients annually. It was designed to improve quality of care through a patient-centered environment that also focused on energy conservation.

With these goals in mind, Henderson Engineers provided fire protection and life safety services for this two-story replacement clinic. Our services included water supply analysis, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, mass notification system, and means of egress. The design-build project involved coordinating with multiple trade partners during design and construction to provide compliant life safety systems for the facility that ultimately achieved LEED Gold Certification.

Just as the Air Force strives to make a difference in the world, we strive to make a difference in the projects we touch by providing our clients with good value and solid designs.
