LEGO Store at Rockefeller Center LEGO Store at Rockefeller Center

LEGO decided to build a flagship location at the Rockefeller Center in New York City with one main goal in mind: to provide a completely unique experience to customers. They accomplished this with many life-size LEGO builds, including a tree that has 880,000 LEGOs, and digital components that allow fans to customize their own minifigures. Henderson Engineers helped them actualize their goal by coordinating the systems design for the store to accommodate their layout requirements. We also worked with the City of New York to ensure all standards and requirements were met for a historic building next door to Time’s Square.

About halfway through design, we discovered that the available mechanical room space was much smaller than expected. While LEGO worked to understand this change on their end, our team quickly began developing parallel designs to accommodate the tighter space and keep the schedule. These new designs were approved by LEGO and allowed the project to continue as planned for the store’s grand opening. We also worked closely with LEGO's European architect and design team to ensure that our designs worked alongside their own, especially around the 3D elements constructed of their bricks throughout the store. By working together with LEGO and the project team, we were able to accomplish the end goal of building a completely unique experience for shoppers and LEGO fans across the globe.
