Originally constructed in 2002, Gillette Stadium serves as the sacred home for the New England Patriots. Focused on evolving with their fans, changes have been made over the years to maintain an electrifying environment suitable for these repeat Super Bowl Champions.
Henderson Engineers has been a part of the team that’s helped complete many of these changes. Taking a look at fan experience and feedback each year, enhancements have included everything from patron comfort additions in the upper bowl such as wind protection, radiant heat, circulation fans, and lighting to the addition of more televisions and speakers throughout the venue.
In the Owner’s Suite, field wall glazing was replaced by a nano-wall system, allowing the suite to open up to the exterior while still enjoying radiant heat and air conditioning. The suite was also expanded to host additional guests.
Larger renovations have included the addition of a new fan experience lounge, The Optum Field Lounge, hailed as one of the best fan experiences on the East Coast. Located in the South End Zone this members-only space delivers the ultimate on-field view of the game. Even better, with unpredictable New England winters, it provides a climate-controlled area that fans can go while not missing a minute of the action with multiple state-of-the-art televisions throughout. Guests can also enjoy the best food and beverage options in the stadium and access private restrooms. On non-gamedays the lounge can be rented out for private events from weddings to business meetings.
Changes have also been made to enhance the team spaces, including updating the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems that serve the Patriots’ locker room to make it more comfortable for the team. Knowing it’s not just the Patriots gameday locker room, but also their day-to-day space, our team designed a dedicated locker exhaust system within each locker to force odors from the space.
We’ve enjoyed being part of Gillette’s evolution and can’t wait to see how they continue to change the game.
