Lawrence Public School's College & Career Center offers high school students technical education programs that prepare them for the future with learning experiences in an innovative and engaging environment. Industry partners are active in the learning curriculum to expose students to real-world scenarios. The school features a nursing skills lab and wet labs to support their forensic, bioscience, and medical and emergency care student learning strands. Through hands-on, project-based learning students can prepare for their post-secondary education.

Our design team provided a life cycle cost analysis as well as a preliminary envelope and energy model to review mechanical systems options. A variable refrigerant (VRF) system was included in the building systems design to meet the district's energy goals while also providing flexible zoning and occupant control. Overhead cord reels and flexible power systems were provided in nursing, robotics, and flex labs to allow for equipment modifications over time.

With the spaces being primarily exposed to structure, careful attention was given to ductwork and piping routing throughout the building for an organized aesthetic. Pendant direct/indirect LED fixtures with adjustable zoning were utilized for student specific tasks and a glare-free environment. Henderson Engineers believes preparation is key when it comes to being successful and access to programs and mentors who can guide students in the right direction is something we fully support.
