Located in the center of New York’s Financial District, 28 Liberty was originally constructed in 1961 and, at 813 feet, remains one of the tallest buildings in the world. This presents a number of unique challenges when attempting to upgrade the functional systems throughout the building, including those in Manhatta - an elegant, upscale restaurant elevated 60 stories above lower Manhattan.

Partnering with our New York affiliate, HNY Consulting Engineers, Henderson Engineers led the timely design of all functional systems throughout the renovation of the site, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. We also provided fire and sprinkler protection engineering services for the space.

Designing a fine dining restaurant and event space on the top floor of a 60-story building requires significant infrastructure and close coordination with the building’s owners and tenants. HNY managed tight coordination with the architectural model to deliver a high traffic space that minimized impact on the occupants on the floors immediately below Manhatta.

Throughout design, Henderson and HNY made 28 Liberty’s dynamic view a priority and creatively tailored systems and ceiling coordination to maximize roof space. Additional project assignments included the design a separate lobby entrance with dedicated elevator access to the 60th floor.
