Pediatric Emergency Department - Overland Park Regional Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Department - Overland Park Regional Medical Center

Bright lights, loud noises and uncertainty can make hospitals scary – especially for kids. Overland Park Regional Medical Center, an HCA Midwest hospital, set out to renovate an abandoned emergency department to be less intimidating for young patients.

We created a child-friendly setting with interactive features and enhanced lighting. Our electrical designers, also parents of curious kids, elevated outlets and other potential hazards to make sure little fingers and hands stay safe.

State-of-the-art rooms designed for kids with infectious diseases were equipped with dedicated exhaust fans and pressure monitoring. Our team was also careful to coordinate the placement of ductwork and equipment when renovating existing spaces.

A large corridor was converted to a modern and comfortable waiting area for families and loved ones. This change required special attention to health code requirements for exhaust, lighting, receptacle placement, as well as security and access control.

Henderson Engineers used little details in the design of the OPRMC pediatric ER, to make emergency care less intimidating for little patients.
