Pittsburg State University’s new McPherson School of Nursing Simulation Laboratory Addition provides a dynamic, hands-on learning environment to train the next generation of nurses in spaces that feel and function like modern healthcare settings. This 24,000 SF facility represents a major investment in the future of medical education designed to support 120 students. The program elements include six simulation suites with control rooms, four debriefing spaces, a 3,000 SF active-learning classroom, and a multitude of collaborative study areas.
Henderson Engineers provided efficient, reliable, and future-forward building system designs, to deliver a 10,000 SF addition and 14,000 SF renovation. With a focus on energy efficiency and technical precision, our team expanded the building’s geothermal system with thorough testing to maximize cost savings and performance. The plumbing strategies were tailored to accommodate the complex site conditions, which required sanitary lift stations to ensure seamless integration. Working closely with medical education consultants, we also integrated advanced technology and AV systems built to replicate real-world clinical environments, providing the most authentic training experience possible.
This collaborative, solutions-driven approach delivered a high-performance, energy-efficient learning environment tailored to the unique demands of simulation-based training where future nurses can thrive.
