Being the only school in Kansas or Missouri to receive a prestigious STEM certification award, Rockhurst wanted its commitment to 21st century learning and STEM to show in its classrooms and learning environment. The high school partnered with Henderson Engineers to adapt current spaces, retrofit others, and create new open areas for innovation and learning.

We transformed existing classrooms into flexible learning labs designed to maximize student interaction. Our team expanded the school’s student learning commons and adapted the library into a hands-on makerspace for students to design, tinker, and build. Renovated classrooms were equipped with cutting-edge technology and audio-video systems, along with premium compatibility and wireless content display.

Flexible power accommodations were used throughout the school to foster student-teacher collaboration. Our team designed a new lighting system with daylight sensors and distributed controls which adjust the lights based on time of day and when a room is in-use, making it easier for the school to save energy. The Rockhurst renovation was designed to continue advancing the school’s reputation for academic excellence and to create a learning environment that reinforces innovation, collaboration, and the use of technology.
