ER & Outpatient Health Center - AdventHealth College Boulevard ER & Outpatient Health Center - AdventHealth College Boulevard

Part of the AdventHealth network of care, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission was looking to help relieve stress on the region’s main campus emergency department while also expanding their service area to a wider community. Determined to build a new three-story medical office building to house a new outpatient health center and 24/7 operational emergency room, AdventHealth called on Henderson Engineers as well as multiple architects and partners to bring this building to life.

The building was to be constructed on an undeveloped piece of land, meaning services normally outside our scope such as site work and grading, along with creating a retention pond to handle storm water on the site played a large role in the project. A two-story attached garage was also constructed. Split between healthcare (I-2) and business (B) occupancy, the separation of the building systems required extra attention. The first-floor buildout emergency room included exam rooms, a resuscitation room, x-ray, and support spaces. The top two floors were built out as core and shell for future doctor’s offices and more. Henderson Engineers provided overall building systems design and specialty components including an emergency generator, medical gases, and a specialty HVAC system for emergency department.

The project, a 2019 Capstone Award winner, is ultimately achieving AdventHealth’s goal of extending ER services to the surrounding community and touching more lives. We’re proud to have our name behind that.
