Henderson Engineers designed Ellen Ochoa Elementary School — named after the space pioneer — using polished phasing coordination. The first phase was to design the school’s 21st century learning environment, project-based classrooms, learning park, cafeteria, and commons areas.

Henderson made it easier for the school to save energy by specifying LED lighting with occupancy and daylight sensors. These tools adjust the amount of light based on time of day and whether a room is in-use.

For the second and third phases, we designed the gyms, multi-purpose, music, and art rooms. The Henderson team selected modular and expandable systems as different portions of the facility were completed and put to use.

Working closely with the architect and the school district’s construction manager, we secured seamless phasing and construction sequencing.
