Compass Minerals National Performance Center is unlike any other facility in American soccer. This state-of-the-art facility includes everything necessary to develop the best athletes and coaches in the sport. Henderson Engineers provided building systems design for the facility, which includes a sports performance gymnasium, sports performance lab, team lounge, press conference room, cafeteria, hydrotherapy suite, locker rooms, coaches’ locker rooms, coaches’ offices, three classrooms with operable walls, six breakout rooms, two synthetic turf soccer fields, a super pitch comprised of three natural grass soccer fields, and a sand pitch.
In the center of the two synthetic turf fields is the “Coaching Laboratory.” This stand-alone building includes classrooms, a video analysis suite, and an observation deck. Henderson helped deliver US Soccer and Sporting KC’s vision for instantaneous instruction for coaches and referees working on both fields through the integration of advanced audio-video technology. LED sports lighting was also a crucial part of these training fields to allow for use year-round.
The sports performance lab was created to provide crucial practice, training, and recovery tools for athletes. The facility includes hyperbaric chambers, a cryotherapy lab, a recovery room, a massage suite, an Accupower Force Plate, an environmental/atmospheric chamber, and a physician’s clinic.
