Henderson Engineers Director of Life Safety Paul Villotti was highlighted by ABC 7 News Amarillo as he presented at the biennial International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) Region 6 Future Leaders Conference at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex in the Texas Panhandle. Villotti spoke to arena, civic center, theater, and convention center staff members about analyzing strategies and measures to improve safety at public events when disaster strikes.
“What we’re trying to do is really activate people’s imaginations and their experiences,” Villotti said. “We want them to think about it, look at policies and procedures in place, and how can I marry my actions with policies and procedures and their risks?”
Villotti and IAVM Director of Education Mark Herrera showed videos about failures of large crowds either having to evacuate quickly or stampeding to a door to get to safety. Both experts focus on making safety the top priority, which emphasizes the importance of conferences like this to obtain training and certifications, providing venues and their staff members the expertise they need to be more secure.
