Henderson Fire Safety Expert Analyzes New NFPA Standards

Christopher Culp, Henderson’s director of fire & life safety, recently shared his expertise on NFPA 3 and NFPA 4 in a contributed article for PHCP Pros, an esteemed plumbing, heating, cooling, and piping industry publication. NFPA 3 and NFPA 4 are new fire protection and life safety standards set forth by The National Fire Protection Association.

Culp compares the latest standards to NFPA 13 and NFPA 72, more established specifications that are mainly focused on a building’s individual systems. NFPA 3 and NFPA 4 instead take a holistic approach to installation, testing, and commissioning by treating all fire protection and life safety systems as interconnected. These updated standards also introduce the new role of fire commissioning agent, who leads, plans, schedules, documents, and coordinates the commissioning of systems. The agent makes solutions easier, faster to correct, less expensive, and less impactful on project schedules.

To learn more about how NFPA 3 and NFPA 4 benefit project stakeholders, owners and occupants, read Culp’s full PHCP Pros article at https://www.phcppros.com/articles/13439-meet-the-new-kids-nfpa-3-and-nfpa-4.
