Henderson Engineers Associate VP Named NextGen Leader by KC Business Journal

Henderson Engineers Associate Vice President for Learning & Leadership Development Angie Grant was selected for the 2019 NextGen Leaders class, the Kansas City Business Journal announced. The prestigious program honors 25 rising stars in the Kansas City business community. Objectives of the program include helping emerging leaders continue to build their knowledge and skill sets, and to connect them with each other and the present generation of Kansas City leaders.

Recently elevated to her current role at Henderson, Grant focuses on creating a holistic and consolidated learning and leadership education strategy to engage the entire organization in continuous development. She evaluates the effectiveness of all learning and development programs, support, and training processes offered by Henderson to ensure companywide consistency.

Grant originally joined Henderson in 2004 as a fire protection engineer, where she thrived for 10 years and became a Professional Engineer (PE) in architectural engineering while designing and reviewing fire protection systems and building codes. In 2014, she became Henderson’s director of project management, developing structure and engagement for engineering consistency throughout the company for all disciplines.

Additionally, Grant is responsible for cofounding Henderson’s dedicated women’s network, Empow[HER], with the mission to help propel women within the company through connections, collaboration, and continuous development. Under her continued leadership, the group has grown exponentially in terms of visibility and involvement across the company and industry.

Passionate about leadership development, Grant was selected to be a part of the inaugural class of Henderson’s Leadership Academy. The program, which she now directs, is designed to build, grow, and provide opportunities for upcoming Henderson leaders. A 2018 graduate of the Centurions Leadership program — the premier professional development organization in Kansas City — Grant completed more than 100 hours of community service during her two-year term. She is a leader with the Women’s Intersport Network (WIN for KC) of the Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation, has served as an ACE Mentor to high school students in Olathe, Kansas, and North Kansas City, Missouri, has participated in the Expanding Your Horizons program and volunteers her time and expertise at Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day with the KC STEM Alliance, Smart City, and Canstruction with Harvesters.

Earlier in 2019, she was a 40 Under 40 selection by Consulting-Specifying Engineer. She becomes Henderson’s initial NextGen Leaders pick for the program that is now in its seventh year in Kansas City.
