Fifteen Henderson Employees Successfully Pass PE Exam

Congratulations to 15 of our employees who recently passed the principles and practice of engineering exam to earn their PE certifications. The PE is an eight-hour exam for engineers who have worked in the industry for at least four years.

“Passing the PE exam is a major milestone in any engineer’s career,” said Dustin Schafer, senior vice president and director of engineering. “It matters. Our clients hire us because they believe we can help them solve problems. Our significant technical expertise is at the heart of why they believe that. Our firm is doubling down on building technical capabilities so that we can continue to pursue some of the most challenging projects and programs that our industry has to offer. We literally couldn’t do this without our professional engineering staff.”

The following individuals recently earned their PE credentials — including possibly our first husband-wife team — so join us in congratulating:

“Passing the PE and becoming a licensed engineer has really meant more to me than I thought it would when I first set off on the endeavor,” Sean Turner said. “I spent six to eight hours a week and eight to 10 hours every other weekend studying. I’d say all in, I spent about 100 to 200 hours studying and preparing.

“Passing is important to me from both a personal and professional standpoint. Personally, I’ve proven to myself that with a goal and persistence, I can achieve the things I set my mind to, even with some setbacks. Professionally, I’ve already found that my success has helped motivate others at Henderson to refuel their desire to become licensed. I find joy in helping others achieve goals they may have thought extremely difficult or impossible. I had nothing but amazing support from my peers and senior leadership. It’s been wonderful to show them how their support helped me achieve my goal.”

“I’ve been chasing after this for a while,” Erica Kerr noted. “This was not my first attempt at taking the test, but I was determined it would be my last. I pretty much became a shut-in from January to April, studying and doing problems every weekend and every evening. Everyone here at Henderson was so amazing and supportive. I received great advice and encouragement. It kept me motivated and focused. When I saw the big green ‘Pass’ symbol, I could have cried I was so happy. To actually get to call myself an engineer, it’s an excellent feeling, and then to have my email flooded with notes of congratulations from everyone made it even more awesome. Now I just have to figure out what to go after next!”

By passing the exam, each individual transitioned to an engineer title from designer and received a bonus as a reward for hard work and dedication.

Nicely done, engineers. We’re proud of you.
