Bangor Honored with SFPE Rolf H. Jensen Award

Henderson Engineers Senior Fire Protection Engineer/Code Consultant Traci Bangor was chosen as the recipient of the 2020 Society of Fire Protection Engineering (SFPE) Rolf H. Jensen Award for Outstanding Committee Service. The honor, established in 1988, recognizes persons who have rendered unselfish, extraordinary service on a committee which contributes to SFPE’s goals and to the profession of fire protection engineering.

“Traci has worked as committee chair of the Fire Protection PE Exam Development Committee, preparing the PE questions for the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) test that all fire protection PE candidates take across the country,” said Paul Villotti, director of fire protection engineering for Henderson and an SFPE Fellow. “It is one of the most important efforts of the society, and the committee’s efforts were focused on transitioning from a paper test to a computer test. This was very difficult and challenging, but under Traci’s leadership, it was successfully completed. Congratulations to Traci as this from all her peers who recognize how much her efforts advance the cause of the society.”

“It is quite an honor to be recognized for the time and effort working on, and in recent years, serving as the chair of the PE Exam Development Committee,” Bangor said. “It is an honor which would not have been possible without all of the support from the other fire protection engineers on this committee that I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with. I am very grateful that working at Henderson has allowed me the opportunity to continue to serve the fire protection community in this fashion, connect with and learn from other engineering professionals, and give me the chance to work on challenging and high-profile projects.”

Rolf H. Jensen is widely credited for achieving acceptance of fire protection engineering as part of the design process. Among his many notable achievements, Jensen was appointed chairman by Mayor Richard J. Daley to investigate the 1967 McCormick Place fire in Chicago. Jensen wrote the book “Fire Protection for the Design Professional” and received numerous awards, including the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Partners in Public Education Award in 1994 for his work in collaborative public education efforts, and service awards from the NFPA and the SFPE in the 1990s. He served as SFPE’s president from 1987-89.

Bangor and Villotti are part of Henderson’s 50-plus member fire & life safety team, one of the largest in the industry.
