Chris joined the Henderson Engineers family in 1997; starting out as a mechanical engineer, he was introduced to the world of fire protection systems design. His curiosity in life safety systems grew until he decided to take the Fire Protection PE exam "just for fun." As fate would have it, he ended up being the only person to pass the exam in Kansas that year and the rest is history. Throughout the past 30 years, Chris has been involved with nearly every aspect of fire protection engineering from systems design to quality control and assurance to standards development, the list goes on and on. Identifying out-of-the-box solutions to difficult design challenges and developing life-safety systems you hope are never needed, all while mastering the fine balance between risk and cost is one of Chris's favorite parts of the job.
A true mentor at heart, Chris has not only taught numerous fire protection courses for Henderson's internal fundamentals training program, but he also assists with teaching an architectural engineering class at the University of Kansas. When he's not cultivating talents and shaping the minds of future engineers, you can find Chris as an active member for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) focusing on code development, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SPFE) Committee on Professional Qualifications, and on the City of Lenexa Code Board of Appeals as the Fire Protection Representative. As if that's not enough, Chris is also the representative of the Education/STEM pillar on the Henderson Foundation Board, is part of our 401(k) committee, and makes regular appearances at the Kansas City Corporate Challenge's endurance-sport events.
