COURSE OVERVIEW

An introduction to the typical technology infrastructure requirements for new and large renovation construction projects. Topics to include: telecommunications (structured cabling for voice and data applications), IT networking, wireless, audio video, and security systems — with a focus on K—12 and higher education verticals.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Understand the reasons and the size requirements for technology support spaces — AKA telecom rooms, comm rooms, MDFs, IDFs, head end rooms, equipment rooms, server rooms, etc.
  2. Learn to locate these rooms and equipment to minimize interference and construction cost.
  3. Learn how to optimize a building’s architecture and lighting for AV systems and components.
  4. Learn the components of an electronic security system and the best practices for coordination items.
