Energy Code for Architects

COURSE OVERVIEW

Energy codes are advancing and more requirements are being added in each new edition. This constant change makes having a fundamentals understanding of energy code requirements extremely important for architects to design successfully. This class will describe the envelope related content of energy codes, how to determine what is actually required, and how the requirements can successfully be satisfied. After this class, participants will not only gain an understanding of the code language but how energy codes are actually applied to envelope design.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Recognize where insulation is required on building plans or sections.
  2. Determine the level of insulation required for a specific project location.
  3. Provide the level of detail required to demonstrate envelope compliance with an energy code.
  4. Identify different options for complying with an energy code.
